Filler vs Botox
I had the pleasure of sitting down with our aesthetic nurse Kim, she truly is amazing and is wealthy with knowledge. When getting injections whether it be filler or Botox Kim expressed that she isn’t necessarily changing your face but only refreshing and enhancing, and when she said that I myself who wasn’t even getting injections at the time felt completely at ease and in awe of her confidence of what she does.

Where can filler be used:
Filler can be used on many different areas on the face, the common areas are
– The nasal labia—also called laugh line
– Marionette
– Lips
– Upper lip to get rid of the vertical lip lines that we call smokers lip.
– Lift and enhance cheeks, chin and jawline
– Earlobes
– Tear troughs— to smooth under those tired eyes that products cannot fix.

Fillers can help replace volume loss, smooth brow furrows, crow’s feet, frown lines. Effects can last a few months to a year depending on which filler line Kim thinks is best after your initial consultation with her. Each area of the face is in need of a different filler. For instance to plump the lips we would typically use Juvederm Ultra. To smooth under the eyes/tear troughs Juvederm or Restylane are perfect for those areas.
Where is Botox used:
– Horizontal forehead line
– Gummy smile
– Frown lines (glabellar complex)
– Radial lip lines
– Crows feet
– Marionette lines
– Bunny lines (nasalis)
– Chin line or square or wide jawline

What is the difference between filler / neurotoxins:
Both dermal fillers and neurotoxins are used in various areas of the face. Some area’s you may want to treat the area with Botox instead of getting a filler. Both enhance the area and smooth over fine lines, and of course boost confidence as your area of concern is reduced with Kim’s magic touch. However, deep lines between your eyes, wrinkles on the forehead and outer eye or saggy brow line you may want to consider a neurotoxin. Deep lines around the mouth that weigh down your face or the desire to change the contour of your jaw or lips, then filler is perfect!

What fillers are made of:
Most fillers are hyaluronic acid based such as the Juvederm Collection and sometimes can be dissolved if the results are truly not what you were anticipating, but Radiesse is calcium based for the more seasoned patients as can last up to 18 months as it takes longer to dissolve and can not be undone, so it is recommended to use this brand if you are already receiving filler.

Sculptra is poly-l- lactic acid based as it stimulates your own collagen, which is something we Just started offering.
What are neurotoxins:
Neurotoxins prevent the release of the neurotransmitter from the axon endings at the neuromuscular junction causing paralysis. So before Botox, nerves signal releases chemicals that contract the muscle —which in time is what is causing those pesky lines we despise so much. After Botox, it blocks chemical signals to the muscle reducing contractions— not making you paralyzed in that area, just less movement for less lines!
