Laser Hair Removal Minimizes Hair Growth

Unwanted hair can be a pain, but luckily, removing it doesn’t have to be.

Shaving and waxing seem convenient, but they can cause a whole host of issues. Luckily, there’s a quick and effective method to remove hair: laser hair removal.

There are many benefits of laser hair removal, like getting rid of unwanted hair and stubble and not having to shave as often and therefore not worrying about razor bumps. It’s also a quick process, less painful than other hair removal methods like waxing, and prevents ingrown hairs.

If you’re gearing up for your first treatment or are simply curious about the process, here’s what you need to know about how laser hair removal works.

HOW LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORKS

The laser used during the treatment emits bright pulses of light. This concentrated light heats the melanin, or pigment, within the hair. The heat damages the hair follicles, causing a delay in hair growth.

Laser hair removal treatments are done quickly. During the treatment, you’ll feel minimal pain due to a cooling device that ensures your skin isn’t damaged by the heat. Laser hair removal treatments work best on people who have dark hair and lighter skin tones, although anyone with pigmented hair can receive the treatment.

After six to eight treatments, laser hair removal will permanently reduce hair growth, though some maintenance may still be needed.

WHERE LASER HAIR REMOVAL CAN BE DONE

Ditch your razor and tweezer for a bit — laser hair removal is a great alternative! It can be performed anywhere on the body, though the face, underarms, bikini area, legs, and back are the most common areas.

For best results, shave the night before or the day of your treatment. Since laser hair removal targets the root of the hair, don’t pick at, wax, or tweeze the area before treatment.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AFTER A LASER PROCEDURE

After your treatment, enjoy your smooth results! To make the most of your treatment, avoid going in the sun as much as possible and don’t go to tanning beds because your skin will be sensitive to the heat.

How often you should get laser hair removal depends on the area you’re getting the treatment on. Treatments are done every six to eight, eight to ten, or ten to twelve weeks apart. You can shave between treatments if you’d like. Permanent hair removal isn’t guaranteed from laser hair removal treatments.
